This method does require initial heat, but once sealed, the food remains stable without refrigeration.
Root Cellaring
Before refrigerators, people used cool underground spaces to store potatoes, onions, carrots, apples, and squash.
Even in modern homes, basements or insulated storage areas can extend shelf life for certain produce.
Fat Preservation
Historically, meat was preserved in rendered fat, known as confit. When fully submerged in fat and stored cool, oxygen exposure is reduced and spoilage slows significantly.
Dependency and Reality
